Peter is an established Australian artist with a recognised exhibition history, award record and demonstrated collector demand across regional and metropolitan markets.
His work was first recognised at a national level at age nine through the Royal Agricultural Society in Sydney. Following private tuition and further study, Peter developed an early professional practice, exhibiting and selling his work and undertaking commissions for both private and corporate clients.
His practice spans watercolour, oil and acrylic. Peter’s watercolours are painted on custom archival paper developed in consultation with Australian papermills, while his larger works on canvas and Belgian linen have become an important part of his contemporary practice.
A defining feature of Peter’s work is his direct and enduring relationship with the landscapes he paints. For more than two decades, he has owned and worked a significant rural property on the Macquarie River in central western New South Wales. Living within that landscape has given him an intimate understanding of its changing light, seasons, water, weather and agricultural rhythms. That experience is reflected in paintings that are not simply observations of rural Australia, but interpretations informed by having lived and worked within it.
Peter has also travelled extensively through regional Australia and internationally, using those experiences to extend his study of rural landscapes. He spent time working on rural properties in Wyoming, South Dakota and Montana, experiencing first-hand the scale and character of the American agricultural heartland. In Italy, he took time specifically to paint and study the countryside. These contrasting landscapes have influenced his treatment of light, colour, scale and atmosphere while reinforcing the strong connection to land that runs through his work.
Alongside his life on the land and extensive travel, Peter has maintained his artistic practice through ongoing study, commissioned works and painting, continuing to develop the technical and observational foundations of his work.
Following many successful exhibitions, Peter is regularly commissioned to create original works for individuals and corporate clients. His paintings are represented in rural, regional and metropolitan galleries throughout Australia and are held in private and corporate collections in Australia and internationally. Corporate holdings include Elders Limited, which acquired 20 major works.
Peter’s original artworks are complemented by a range of Limited Edition Prints, each personally signed and numbered by the artist. These provide a more accessible way for collectors to acquire Peter’s work while retaining the provenance and controlled edition associated with the original image.
With an established body of work, a long exhibition and commission history, and increasing collector interest, Peter’s work has appreciated notably over time and is increasingly sought by both established collectors and those acquiring Australian art with a longer-term investment perspective.
